The Longyou Grotto is in the village of Shiyanbei in southeastern Xiaonanhai, on the north bank of the Qujiang River, and to the north of Longyou County in Quzhou. Within a circumfer­ence of about 100 feet on a mountain, there are 24 caves of various sizes and shapes. Decorative patterns of half leaves are carved on the walls, ceilings, and pillars. Even after 1,000 years, no one knows when it was built, who built it, what its layout was like, and what its func­tion was.
