Located alongside Dianchi Lake, 7,700 feet above sea level and extending over 25 miles, Western Hill is known for having the most beautiful scenery in Yunnan. Here an­cient trees reach for the sky. The hill resembles a sleeping beauty lying on her back with bent legs by Dianchi Lake, so it is also called the Sleeping Beauty Hill.

On Western Hill, there are lush forests and a great va­riety of plants. An immense forested park and nature re­serve is now open in the area. Western Hill is famous for its many ancient buildings, each with unique features hid­den among the thick for­ests. These include Huating Temple (Huating Si), Taihua Temple (Taihua Si), Sanqing Pavilion (Sanqing Ge), and Longmen, among which Longmen ranks first. On the way there, tourists first pass Sanqing Pavilion, which is built among cliffs, like a pavilion suspended in the air. Overlooking Dianchi Lake and the urban area, tourists are treated to a magnificent and ever-changing view. Almost 1,000 feet above the water surface of Dianchi Lake, Longmen stands on a precipitous cliff.
