Dianchi Lake

Dianchi Lake, a famous plateau lake, is the biggest lake in Yunnan Province and also the sixth-largest freshwater lake in China. Situated southwest of Kunming, 6,190 feet above sea level, it has a total area of over 115 square miles and is shaped like a crescent moon. As part of the Yangtze River system, the water in Dianchi Lake flows into Pudu River through Haikou and then into Jinsha River. Surrounding Dianchi Lake is Jinma Hill to the east, Biji Hill to the west, Snake Hill to the north, and Crane Hill to the south. The hills adjoin each other, forming a natural boundary around Kunming. The landscape consists of fertile soil and an abundant water supply convenient for irrigation and navigation. The climate is mild. The view of the lake is charming, with stretches of clear water dotted with sails and fishing boats.
