Huoerguosi Port

Huoerguosi Port is in Huocheng County, bordering Alamutu Prefecture in Kazakhstan. It is 56 miles from Yining, the capital city of Yili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture and more than 400 miles from Urumqi. The  "New Silk Road" freeway, begun in August 2006, connects Xinjiang with the port and so far has the largest amount of traffic in West China. There is an enormous market for Chinese and Kazak inhabitants of border areas to trade at the port. with its 6,500 residents and a daily floating population of around ten thousand. The port imports and exports 500,000 tons of goods a year on average. Huoerguosi Port is in the middle of the second Eurasia Continental Bridge. It is richly endowed with diversity in geography, ethnicity, languages, and customs. Transit trade through the port with Europe has the advantage of shorter distances, lower expenses, and shorter turnover time. With the deepening of China's reform and the implementation of the strategy of developing the West, Huoerguosi will become an important corridor linking China's six eastern provinces with the rest of the world.
