God-Blessed Temple

God-blessed Temple is set on the river side of the Hongna-hai River at the foot of Tian-shan Mountain, northwest of Zhaosu County, covering an area of about 21,500 square feet. It is the only Mongolian lamaist temple that has been preserved relatively intact in Xinjiang. The large temple has a quiet and solemn atmosphere. First built in the late Qing Dynasty, the buildings have been severely damaged due to lack of repair and adverse climate. At present only eight buildings remain. Inside the temple ancient trees rise high into the sky; pines and firs block out the sun. Looking along the axis, eight buildings are placed symmetrically, and along this same axis are the shining wall, the main gate, the front hall, the main hall, the back hall, the left and right halls, the side hall, and an octagonal two-story, double-eaved pavilion. The Grand Hall is the main structure of God-blessed Temple. The hall is 56 feet wide, with seven bays, square at the base, with steep tops. The flying eaves in the four corners are like dragons stretching their heads into the sea. The square wooden blocks between the tops of columns and the crossbeams are supported by layers of horizontal beams. This gold-plated building, richly decorated, looks natural and peaceful, yet sumptuous. The eaves of the hall are supported by giant columns, on which are painted rare birds and animals, such as phoenixes, lions, tigers, and kylins all in different postures. On the facing wall of the Grand Hall are mural paintings in traditional Chinese style, such as two dragons teasing a ball, Jiang Ziya fishing, and Su Wu shepherding sheep.
