Reting Monastery

Built in 1057 by Dromptonpa, founder of the Kadampa Order of Tibetan Buddhism, Reting Monastery is located 18.7 miles north of Lhasa. West of Reting is the famous Sacred Path. According to Tibetan legend, on July 15 of every Year of the Ram (Tibetan calendar), hundreds of thousands of goddesses descend from the heavens and gather at this spot to save mankind from the sea of miserable life. As a result, every time this religious festival comes around, pious disciples, no matter how far away they are, congregate to make offerings and pray for peace and prosperity.
