Kanuo Ruins
Located in the village of Kanuo, 7.4 miles southeast from Chamdo, the ruins sit at an altitude of 10,171 feet. Discovered in 1977, they were first excavated between May and August 1978; an area of 19,375 square feet was unearthed. The remains of 26 houses were discovered, together with many cultural artifacts — mainly stone tools such as shovels, hoes, and cutters; tossing, cutting, and striking tools; scraping and grinding tools; axes; and stone digging tools. Adornments such as loops, beads, and bracelets as well as pottery, corn, and animal bones were also found. Archeologists' work shows that the ruins constitute New Stone Age sites, which date back 4,000 to 5,000 years, revealing that the ancient people were engaged in farming and livestock breeding, and that they used rough tools as early as more than 4,000 years ago.
