Fokuang Shan

Fokuang Shan is a huge Buddhist temple cum monastery built in 1967. It is located west of Kaoping River, northeast of Tasueshien (Big Tree Village) in Kaohsiung County. It is now the center of Buddhism study in Taiwan and Asia. Crowning the entire area is none other than a gigantic 120-meter-tall, golden statue of Buddha. It stands proud and smiling, with its right hand extended, left hand held down, and eyes half closed. It is flanked by 480 other, smaller Buddhas, each over 6 feet tall. They glitter in the sunshine, which makes a truly spectacular sight. In the vicinity is another temple called Big Buddha City, where you will find more than a thousand statues of Buddha of various sizes.
