Liangshan Yi Museum

Liangshan Yi Museum is on the north side of Mount Lushan, to the southeast of the city of Xichang. It was built and opened in 1985 as the first specifically clan- oriented museum. The museum is also the only one in the world that focuses on the clan system of the Yi people and its slave society. It is divided into four theme areas: Beautiful and Abundant Liangshan, the Long History of the Yi Ethnic Group, Slave Society before the Democratic Reform, and the Great Democratic Reform. In eight exhibition halls, more than 2,000 cultural relics and photographs are displayed, reflecting all aspects of the clan system of the Liangshan Yi ethnic group and their slave-owning society. These artifacts and other related information are extremely valuable for the study of the creation, development, and demise of this once endemic society.
