Baili Temple

Baili Temple is in Shengkang Village, 8 miles from Gangtse County. The Tibetan word baili means "an auspicious islet in Qinggang Mountain." The lamasery was built in the Qing Dynasty, and it was once the seat of the Boba government of the Red Army. In 1909, the Living Buddha Geda came to take charge of Baili Temple. He edited many of the local Guozhuang lyrics, some of which are still sung. While the Living Buddha Geda was in charge, Baili Temple often housed orphans, waifs, and the persecuted.
