Pujiu Temple

About 7.5 miles northwest of Yongji, the Pujiu Temple was established during the reign of Wu Zetian, a Tang Dynasty (684-704) queen. This temple and surrounding area is the setting for the famous novel The West Chamber. Rebuilt in 1986, the Yingying Pagoda is one of the only four echo buildings in China; the clear echoes and strange sound effects are justly famous.
