Wencheng Jia'ang Sutra Stone Heap
Jia'ang Sutra Stone Heap in Xinzhai Village of Yushu County in south Qinghai is 528 miles south of Xining. The mound is the largest of its kind and is called doben in local language, which means "100,000 sutra stones."
The stone heap can be traced back hundreds of years and is now more than 328 feet long and 131 feet wide. It allegedly has 2 billion sutra stones, each of which is carved with sutra lines or religious figures. The oldest sutra stones are deeply buried in the mound, and new ones are being placed year by year. Now every family in the village has generations of sculptors.
