Frost Viewing

The two banks of the Song-huajiang River are covered by dense forests. In winter, fog from the ice-free water of the river hovers in the air and freezes on the trees to form beautiful frost patterns, which is called "rime" or "tree hangs" in the local dialect. Together with the landscape of Guilin, the stone forest in Yunnan, and the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, the river rime is listed as one of the four wonders of China. In the depths of winter, the whole province is covered with ice and snow; Song-huajiang City dresses itself in jade and silvery white, resembling clouds and snow banks viewed from a distance.
