Ancient Building Group in Liukeng Vil?lage (LiukengCun)

Located in Liukeng Village along the Wu River, southeast of the township of Niutian, Le'an County, in Fuzhou city, Liukeng Village was built during the Kai-yuan period of the Southern Tang Dynasty (937-942) in the Five Dynasties Period. Most of the villagers here had Dong as their family name and regarded Dong Zhongshu, a knowledgeable scholar in the Han Dynasty, as their ancestor and Dong He as the creator of the Liukeng Village. There are more than 500 ancient buildings, among which are 309 buildings of the Ming or Qing dynasties, nearly 100 temples, and dozens of schools. The stage, the Jade Emperor Pavilion (Yuhuang Ge), the Tower of the God of Literature (Kuixing Lou), the arch, and the screen wall facing the gate in this village are still intact. In the village there are now about 170 wooden horizontal inscribed boards, over 250 inscribed boards for wall decoration, and at least 100 couplets written on scrolls from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
