Yugu Terrace (Yugu Tai)

Located on Helan Mountain (Helan Shan) and locally known as Escargot Mountain (Tianluo Ling), northwest of Ganzhou city, Yugu Terrace was built during the Guangde and Dali periods of the Tang Dynasty (763-779).The three-story terrace is 56 feet high, with a total area of about 116 square miles. The terrace is magnificent with its carved and painted beams; it also attracted men of letters from different dynasties to leave their dedications here. In 1094, Su Shi, a famous eleventh-century poet and calligrapher, was exiled to Lingnan. When he passed by Ganzhou, he went to Yugu Terrace and wrote the poem "Composed on the Yugu Terrace, Qianzhou."
