Purple Mountain Observatory

Located on the third peak of Purple Mountain in the eastern suburb of Nanjing, Purple Mountain Observatory was completed in September 1934 as the first modern astronomical research institution built by China independently. During its long-term work of astronomical observation, the observatory has discovered a large number of planetoids, of which 100 have received their official serial number and the right to be named from the Minor Planet Center.
