The Mausoleum of' Zhu Yuanzhang (Ming Xiao Ling)

Located at the foot of Playing Pearl Peak (Wanzhu Feng) at the southern side of Zhongshan Mountain, the Mausoleum of Zhu Yuanzhang is where Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and Empress Ma, his wife, were buried. The mausoleum was built in 1381. Inside it is a huge stone turtle, head turned skyward, with a stone pillar on its back. On the pillar is a 2,746-word inscription composed by Zhu Di, one of the emperors of the Ming Dynasty, which tells of Zhu Yuanzhang's wise decisions and good deeds. The pillar is some 29 feet tall, making it the tallest among all the existing ground pillars in Nanjing.
