Mingzu Mausoleum

Situated at the spot where the Huaihe River empties into Hongze Lake, 5 miles northwest of Xuyi, Mingzu Mausoleum is the number one mausoleum of Ming Dynasty tombs. Built by Zhu Yuanzhang as a cenotaph honoring three generations from his grandfather and the place where his grandfather is actually buried, its construction began in 1385. The stone carvings in front of the tomb are masterpieces of Ming stone sculpture.
