China tour-- Dragon Boat Festival

China tour news: Tradition had it that Qu Yuan died on the 5th day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar and the Dragon Boat Festival has been celebrated for thousands of years on that day to commemorate him. In Qu's hometown and many southern regions, people eat zong zi (pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves) at Dragon Boat Festival. Originally, civilians living adjacent to the Mi Low River dropped zong zi into the river to feed fish in order that the fish would not eat Qu's corpse; Later on, the tradition was spread throughout the country and even to Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asian countries. The festival is best known for its dragon boat races. It was said that people raced their boats to search for Qu Yuan. Nowadays, all tourists can take part in this athletic cultural activity. Dressed in dragon boat clothes, the guests board the boat accompanied by a boatman and travel in the river. It is a particularly magnificent sight. The champion receives a precious souvenir.

During the festival, song and dance performances are held, mainly focused on Qu Yuan culture and reflecting the local situation and customs of the Three Gorges region. Many programs, such as Evoking the Spirit of Qu Yuan and Zhaojun Going West, display great artistic charm, strong local flavor, simple folk customs, and profound cultural depths, from which tourists can enjoy the unique charm of Ba Chu culture.
