Shanhai Pass

Shanhai Pass, 9.3 miles from Qinhuangdao, was built in 1381 as a military stronghold during the Ming Dynasty. Situated between the Yan Mountains and the Bohai Sea, it is often referred to as "the Great Pass under the Heaven." The brick and earthen walls of the pass are 46 feet high, 22 feet wide, and almost 2.5 miles in circumference. The pass is connected with the Great Wall.
