Loushan Pass

Loushan Pass, also called Lou Pass or Taiping Pass, is located on Dalou Mountain in Zunyi County, at an altitude of 5,170 feet. Because the pass sits at the border between Zunyi and Tongzi, commanding the route both to Sichuang in the north and to Guizhou and Guangxi in the south, it has always been a strategic point.

In front of the entrance to the Loushan Pass stands a huge screen-like pillar, on which is engraved Mao Zedong's poem "Yi Qin E—Loushan Pass." About a mile from the pass is a cave complex consisting of Zhencang Cave and Guanyin Cave. Within the Loushan Pass Scenic Area are attractions including the Tongzi people in Tianmen Cave, Paleolithic cultural artifacts on Ma'an Mountain, Tongzi Little West Lake, where General Zhang Xueliang was imprisoned, and the Hailongtun ancient pass and ancient battlefield relics. Loushan Pass, with its towering peaks and precipitous cliffs as well as the winding Chuan-Qian highway, is considered the most perilous landscape in northern Guizhou.
