Nine-Dragon Cave

Nine-Dragon Cave is located on the hillside of Guanyin Mountain along the banks of Malong Creek, 10.5 miles east of Tongren. The cave has the higher Liulong ("Six Dragons") Mountain at its back and the pretty Jinjiang River in front. It is said that on Liulong Mountain there were six yellow dragons that invited the three black dragons in the Jinjiang River to meet in the cave. However, both groups wanted to take the cave as their own and started fighting with each other. At dawn, they coiled to rest on a huge colorful column in the depths of the cave but got trapped forever. There is a creek at the foot of the mountain, where people used to swear at the nine dragons because of their noisy fighting. That is how Jiulongpanzhu ("Nine Dragons Coiling around a Column") and the Malong ("Swearing at Dragons") Creek received their names. Nine-Dragon Cave is 230 feet wide, ranges from 1 00 to 230 feet high, and is 1 .4 miles long, covering a total area of 366,000 square miles. There are seven halls in the cave, three of which are open to tourists.
