Guizhou Province, also called Qian or Gui for short, with its capital in Guiyang, is located in southwestern China, adjoining Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality to the north, Yunan Province to the west, Guangxi Province to the south, and Hunan Province to the east. Guizhou includes nine regions, prefectures, and cities, including Guiyang, Liupanshui, Southeast Guizhou, Anshun, Tongren, and Bijie, which in turn govern 10 county-level cities, 67 counties (including 11 ethnic autonomous counties), 7 municipal districts, and 2 special regions. Guizhou extends about 370 miles from east to west, and about 316 miles from north to south, with a total population of more than 37,480,000. Guizhou covers an area of over 440,300 square miles, 89 percent of which is mountainous, with 11 percent hills, basins, river valleys, and plains.
