Guangxi

Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, "Gui" for short, was founded on March 15, 1958. It is located in the southwest of China's coastal area. To the east is Guang­dong Province; to the north are Hunan and Guizhou provinces; to the west is Yunnan Province; to the south is Beibu Bay; to the southwest is Vietnam. It covers an area of about 88,800 square miles and has a popula­tion of 44,890,000 (2000 census), one-third of whom are of the Zhuang ethnicity. It is the most convenient passage to the ocean in southwest China.
