Zhang Fei Temple of Yunyang

Opposite the town of Yun-yang, Zhang Fei Temple is situated at the top of Feifeng (Flying Phoenix) Mountain, on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. It is 237 miles from the heart of downtown Chongqing. The temple was originally built in the later years of the kingdom of Shu Han (221-263) to commemorate General Zhang Fei, and has since been rebuilt many times. The magnificent temple covers a constructive area of 15,440 square miles, with 42,460 square miles of garden. Zhang Fei Temple is the only ancient site that would be completely submerged as a result of the Three Gorges Project, but it has been relocated to Yunyang County.
