Shibaozhai(Precious Stone Fortress)
Shibaozhai is in Zhong County on the northern bank of the Yangtze River. It is 28 miles from the Zhong County seat. The original pagoda was built in the Qing Dynasty in 1750. The mountain is actually a 98-foot rectangular rock with sheer cliffs, and the pagoda, which is a 12-story, 184-foot wooden tower, leans against the cliff. The water level of the river will reach the gate of the pavilion in 2009, the projected completion date of the Three Gorges Project. At that time, Shibaozhai will be surrounded by water on four sides, but a dam is being built to protect the base of pagoda.
