Beishan (North Mountain) Carvings

North Mountain, originally called Longgang Mountain, is 1,837 feet above sea level. The carvings in this area date from 892, in the Tang Dynasty, to the Ming Dynasty. The Fowan carvings, famous for their exquisite artistry, are divided into the carvings of the southern part, which were completed in the later Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties, and those of the northern part, which were produced mainly in the Northern and Southern Song dynasties. They are world-famous.
