Chongqing

Chongqing, or "Yu" for short, has become the fourth municipality directly under the Central Government of China since 1997. Its many other names include Jiangzhou, Bajun, Chuzhou, Yuzhou, and Gongzhou. In 1189, a Song Dynasty emperor was first appointed Prince Gong here, and later he came to power as the emperor-thus the city got the name Chonqing, meaning "double celebration." Chongqing covers an area of 31,776 square miles,
