Ancient Village of Xidi
The traditional village of Xidi, located in Yi County at the foot of the Yellow Mountains, preserves to a remarkable extent the appearance of rural settlements of a type that has largely disappeared or has been transformed in the past century. Nearly 1,000 Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) residential buildings have been preserved, re-creating the village life in southern Anhui Province of a few
centuries ago. The street patterns, the architecture and decoration, and the integration of houses with comprehensive water systems are unique remnants. The village was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000.
